FLIGHT is a large-scale landmark artwork designed to transform Charleston’s center into a true, year-round cultural destination.
The installation consists of two monumental, angled glass surfaces and a light source embedded in the ground. Together, these elements create a solid, three-dimensional illusion of a staircase made entirely of light. The staircase is both life-sized and infinitely tall. FLIGHT appears every hour, slowly materializing over sixty seconds. It remains illuminated for five minutes before gradually disappearing. The spectacle is vivid at any time of day, even in full sunlight. The reverse side of the sculpture features a monumental mirror angled to reflect the Charleston sky. A long bench is integrated into the form. This allows the installation to function as a shaded, contemporary pavilion and gathering space.

FLIGHT is a singular work of light and aspirational icon. It functions as a symbolic gateway, evoking a connection to the transcendent and marking Charleston as a place of both arrival and departure. FLIGHT frames the town as a site of reflection, enlightenment, and possibility. The work stands as a timeless civic icon, embodying the rising spirit of Charleston and its infinite future.
