Matthew is the Arts Consultant for the project and in summer 2024 Matthew visited Charleston to meet the steering group and to begin to structure the plans to develop an extraordinary public art project for the City.
Matthew is based in NorthEast England, and works across the UK, and internationally on public arts commissioning, curating exhibitions and cultural policy. Matthew previously spent 14 years at Arts Council England as a creative broker helping to shape culture led regeneration, developing many new arts buildings and artist’s commissions across the region.


Between 2008/2010 Matthew represented the cultural sector at the North East England Office in Brussels and has worked on cultural policy at a strategic level. He has curated sculpture parks, city arts strategies, a large scale permanent sculpture with Anish Kapoor and has been involved in over 150 arts commissions.
Matthew now mainly works with private sector clients to commission arts strategies and public artworks within new capital developments. He is currently working on a wide ranging arts strategy for a 15 year development in Edinburgh, curating a gallery exhibition about sustainable clay at Newcastle University, managing sculpture commissions in London and Glasgow and has an annual project with the National Trust to support emerging artists.
