Ralfonso is a designer of environmentally interactive, kinetic and light sculptures (sculptures that interact with the environment such as wind, water, etc.) since 1980. Since 1999 he specializes in the design and execution of large to monumental kinetic and light sculptures for public places from his studios in West Palm Beach, Florida, USA and Geneva, Switzerland. His artistic career has seen him create pieces ranging from intimate two-foot sculptures for private collections to monumental installations over 50 feet for public spaces, including design commissions for up to 300m (1,000ft.). He was selected to install the kinetic, wind-driven “Dance with Wind” in 33ft. (10m) for the Central Plaza of the Beijing Olympics 2008. His works have been exhibited and installed globally in countries including Switzerland, the Netherlands, Russia, China, Germany, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, France, Taiwan, and the United States.
Ralfonso co-founded the Kinetic Art Organization (KAO) in 2001 as President from inception to today. KAO is now the world’s largest kinetic art organization, with over 1,000 members across more than 60 countries. He is also actively involved in education, and lectures on kinetic and interactive art and STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) at leading universities worldwide including teaching the first kinetic interactive art course in China at Tsinghua University in 2013.
